The main attractions of Eastern Crete are the Vai Palm Beach and the Monastery of Toplou that dates back to the 15th century.
The excursion includes a tour in the town of Ierapetra, with its Venetian harbor and its important architectural monuments. Then, we will visit the Monastery of Toplou, dedicated to Virgin Mary - or Akrotiriani, as she is called - which is located in the northeast of the island. We will admire the imposing buildings and learn the history that is associated with the people's struggle for freedom. In the monastery there is a museum with religious art exhibits and workshops, where you can buy excellent wine and olive oil, produced by the monks.
In this area you will find the only palm forest in Europe and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches of the island and you will have enough time to enjoy the sea and the unique landscape.
On the way back, we will stop at the port of Sitia for a walk on the waterfront to admire the spectacular view of the old town and the sea...
